ZeN Database Program

Question:
Hello.  I just download the zen database program.  Is it still supported?  If so, I have a few questions.  Thanks!

    Hello Jeff,

Can you please tell me where did you find/download ZeN database from, what version, and what operating system you have?
Also, tell me what questions you have.

    Hello, thanks for responding!

I found the app at freewarefiles.com. It is labeled 2005. I don’t see an “About” screen to give any more information about it. I use WinXP with SP3.
    ust a few questions:

    1. Does the app have dependencies that prevent it from being used portably? Can I copy the entire folder to a USB stick, copy it back to another computer, and have it run correctly, or are there registry entries, etc, that prevent this?

    2. I want to import a .csv file into ZeN Database. This is a format the excel can use, and I think I can use it to bring records into ZeN. But it asks me which record to import. How can I tell ZeN to just import all the records in a file?

Thanks for any help you can give!

    Hello Jeffrey,

Thank for the info….it looks like you are using version 2. In 2008, ZPSSoft stop with all non Vista products ( red more:
http://zpssoft.com/Community/2008/02/28/zpssoft-has-discontinued-all-non-vista-software/ ) including ZeN database….The good news is that ZeN is on the list of products that will be re-created from scratch and its currently in development. New (Vista) version should be published as early as Feb or March 2009 and it will be WinXP compatible and new database files will be version 1 and 2 compatible as well. As for the installation, ZeN uses standard Windows installation (MSI) and therefore require you to run installation on each PC you intend to use with ZeN. Simple copy of the exe file is not recommended. If you decide that you do not wish to use ZeN, use same installation ( MSI ) file to remove ZeN application and all the registry keys that ZeN installation created.

ZeN database files however are transferable to any media and do not require any additional installations except for ZeN itself. Import and Export
functions are limited in your (free) version, that is why ZeN is asking you how many records you wish to import. Unfortunately at this moment, we are unable to provide you with the full version where import is unlimited ( all records in file) because entire support for full version’s purchase is no longer in effect, due to Windows Vista incompatibility issues.

    Sincerely,

Thanks for the info! I’m glad it will be re-done soon, with XP support included! It’s a nice app and I’ll be glad to see it when it’s done.

Best regards to all, and thanks again for such a quick and courteous reply. Happy new year!
